So a few words about light and sleep. For three weeks on our adventure, there will be continuous daylight. Although we hibernate in our cabins at night it is virtually impossible to shut out all the light. In addition to “forever daylight”, we have been deliberately adding an hour for six nights in preparation for making our western crossing of the dateline. This is comparable to “spring forward” every other day. The cicadian bio- rhythms of our bodies are blow out by the constant flux of time changes. Fortunately, there is a continuous supply of caffeine when our systems try to succumb to catching a few winks during presentations.
