January 2, 2024, Tuesday, Marguerite Bay and Horseshoe Island

Blue skies, light wind, and crystal clear air, perfect for starting our day with kayaking. We cruised around the bay checking out the icebergs floating in our path. After an hour, we returned to the ship and suited up for a shore excursion.

Horseshoe Island is a rocky land mass used by the Falkland Islands Survey crew as a research station for the British in 1955. Its primary focus was geology and surveying plus gathering meteorological data as well as sharing air photography information, The station’s living quarters remain today with artifacts of the daily life of those who served on the island.

We were entertained by a group of 4 Adelie penguins in the bay and a slumbering seal.
